Melfer's Macaroons A New Chewy, Chocolate Treat
(LOS ANGELES) - Melissa Sanders baked her first batch of chocolate macaroons at the age of eight. The recipe for the chocolate macaroons ("It's not chocolate-covered," she emphasizes) goes back four generations to her Great Uncle Sid's mother. Melissa never dreamed that the hours spent baking in her kitchen would later lead to a business selling these same macaroons to chocolate and macaroon fans across the Southland. They are fast becoming an L.A. favorite; a secret that is getting out.
Today, Melissa Sanders and business partner, Jennifer Klein, are the brains and palates behind Melfer's Macaroons.
"Everyone who tries our macaroons loves them," says Melissa. "Even people who don't like coconut tell me that they are really surprised by how much they love the taste." The chocolate macaroons are very rich, moist and chewy; they are unlike anything you have ever tasted. Once you go "Mac", you'll never go back.
Melfer's Macaroons has gone beyond the Original Chocolate recipe, to include other ingredients not traditionally found in macaroons. Each month features a unique flavor as part of the "Macaroon-of-the-Month Club", such as Chocolate Caramel, Chocolate Peanut Butter, and White Chocolate Raspberry.
Melfer's customers can order the chocolate macaroons by the dozen or purchase one of several decadent gift baskets. Macaroons are shipped overnight within California or two-day nationwide. Orders can be placed by phone (310-478-1495) or via the Internet (www.melfersmacaroons.com).
"By the way," says Melissa, in case Melfer's gets any media attention, "we're both single."
